Construction of a Electrical Guitar

Construction

The Electric guitar design can vary substantially, specially the body shape, configuration of the bridge, neck and pickups.

It has some similarities with the acoustic version like 6 strings, neck and headstock, but usually it has a solid body and need pickups to amplify the sound.

The pickup’s magnetic field produce an Electric current by the strings vibration, which creates an electric current in the pickup winding and passes through the tone and volume controls to the output jack. Some guitars have piezo pickups, in addition to or instead of, magnetic pickups.

The main types of Electric guitar are:

  • Solid Body
  • Chambered Bodies
  • Semi-acoustic
  • Full hollow body
  • Electric acoustic

History

In 1931, while jazz guitarists needed an amplified sound from their acoustic guitar to be able to play with big band formats, the Electric guitar was invented. Supported initially by Lonnie Johnson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Charlie Christian, T-Bone Walker and, of course, Les Paul, they were the first to use Electric guitars on record.

Capable of a multitude of sounds and styles, the Electric guitar became, during the 1950s and 1960s, the most important instrument in pop music. But was the blues and rock styles that the Electric guitars developed to the extreme, influencing many other genres of music and transforming the music industry forever.
